From the time we left our apartment at 3 a.m. Kiev time Wednesday, July 8, to the moment we walked over the threshold of our house, we logged an impressive 24 and a half hours of travel. All of us had started coming down with a cold the day before, and Garth and I didn't sleep the night we left. We were exhausted! Garth says that most of Thursday and some of Friday felt like waking up from a coma.
We were thrilled to be greeted at the airport by Cousins Dave and Anna and Uncle Joe, the Rogé family, the Volf family, and the Christofferson family. (These three Colorado families have all come home from Ukraine in the last year with their children, eight in all.) Elaine and Lisa were reluctant at first to talk with anyone, but then the children started chatting with them in Russian, and it was hard to tear them away.
When we arrived home, we were greeted by Cousins Lori and Wesley and Aunt Jennifer. Thank you, sweet family, for the wonderful welcome home! They had adorned our bannister with streamers and balloons, and there were balloons and scriptures tucked into nooks and crannies all over the house. I found a scripture verse when I sat down at the computer this morning, four days later. We were treated to burgers and fries for dinner, and there was a surprise cake in the fridge and ice cream in the freezer. And my sweet sister had made two special welcome home bags for the girls complete with locking journals, High School Musical stickers, pens, and shirts in the girls' favorite colors. What a hit they were!
The day we traveled was Lisa's birthday; she is now 14 years old. We have two 14-year-old daughters--AHH! We have not been able to celebrate her birthday yet, but we look forward to doing something together with family soon.
Thank you so much for all your prayers and support for us on this journey. Garth and I were in Ukraine for a total of eight weeks. Yes, you read that right. We never thought that we would be there so long! We had wanted to blog more while in Ukraine, but we were so busy with the adoption process and then when we had the children living with us during the 10-day wait and afterward, that there was very little time. It seemed that whenever we had a little time to blog, the Internet was not working. In the coming months, we would like to tell more about our experience in Ukraine. There are so many stories to tell, some happy, some heartbreaking. We feel we need to tell them, but it will only be as time allows. So check in on our blog from time to time.
Please keep us in prayer during this time of transition. I would be remiss if I led you to believe that everything is rosy all the time. We know that things will get better with time, but transitions can be very hard. Pray for wisdom for us as we parent our daughters--and for our sanity!

God bless you my friends.
WELCOME HOME!!! Yay, I'm so glad to know you guys are back safe and sound.
Praying for the transition period... I can't imagine doing that with 2 14 year old GIRLS. :) Remember that God is good ALL the time and He is faithful... things will not always look like what they look like in your house right now. :)
Blessings dear friend.
Congratulations!! And welcome to parenthood! ;) :) :)
Whooo HOOO! A big hearty TEXAS Welcome home to you! :)
We will hold you in our prayers. Sleep well and recover! LOL
All life changing experiences are filled with joy and pain. :)
So glad that you are home!! I've been checking your blog every day to see how you are doing. I'm praying for everyone's adjustment. It sounds like things are going well, with some difficulties (which are certainly to be expected!!). I'm thrilled that your girls finally have a mama and papa to love them all the time (even amidst the difficulties!).
Blessings,
Sarah
Oh I'm so glad to read that you are home with your daughters. I so well remember that crazy dazed feeling after being gone so long and loooong travel. It felt so weird for at least a week. And know that I will be praying for you during this adjustment time - no it is not easy but you will come through on the other side. And although it is exhausting like nothing else at times - it is a sweet time filled with nuggets of joy that make even the hardest moments worthwhile. Let me know if you ever want to talk!! What are your school plans for them?
Welcome home! You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Welcome Home! That trip home has to be the most horrfic part of the whole process - at least for me! And I never manage to transition to home well....even when it is just after an overnight somewhere.
Transition can be hard, even with the easiest children. And teen girls can be VERY hard, even when you've raised them from pups and speak the same language! Language learning is hard, even when you are not a self-conscious teenager.
But love conquers all.
I'll remember to pray for you and the girls.
So wonderful that you're home! Can't wait to see the girls! Will be praying as you all make this transition.
Welcome Home, kiddos!!!! It's great being home and I wish you the absolute best as you begin your transition into American life. Blessings to your entire family.
Home Sweet Home! Congratulations! Can't wait to hear more about your trip.
Welcome home, Hoffmann FAMILY!

Welcome home! Wish we could have been there to welcome you home too, sigh! Get some rest, and just remember to take one step at a time those first few weeks. It gets better, and easier! Praying for wisdom for you both to know what to address first and what to ignore! HUGS!
CONGRATULATIONS, Hoffmann family!
wELCOME HOME!
Hi guys! Hope you've recovered by now. I'm actually finding a lot less time to blog now that we're home. So far it has been going great. The kiddos have settled in really good, love to swim and look quite relaxed and at ease. Hope all is well with your family too!
so glad you are all home!
I will be praying for your transition.
Have fun and enjoy your girls!
Yeah!!! Welcome home. Yes transitions are hard - throw in 2 14-year-old girls .... Hang in there. Think of how out of place we felt in Ukraine - and we knew we would eventually go home. Will be praying for you!
Saying a prayer this minute! Can't wait for all your stories~it's been a long time since I visited your blog and am very blessed to be here! (((((HUGS))))) sandi
Thinking of you and wondering how you guys are faring.
I am so thrilled to have happened upon your family blog and it brought me to tears. I also have great difficulty getting pregnant (one successful pregnancy in 11 years and only AFTER we adopted our lovely and perfect daughter). We now have 3, possibly 4 adopted children! God has woven our family tapestry with His own hands and it is beautiful. Blessings to you and your husband and your amazing family.
Warmest Blessings,

Is everything okay?
Really missing your blog!
Welcome home! You must be so pleased to be back.
I was really happy to read that you now have your daughters and the Girls have a Mummy and Daddy.
We have a daughter who is now 20 and those growing up years are lovely and sometimes not always rosy as you say.
Wishing you the very best and pray that the transition period can go smoothly as you and the Girls settle into your new life.
Hugs
Carolyn
